We are often asked are purpose made spacers required when jointing around brick slips, well the answer to this is quite simple not really they are can work out to be  very expensive when costed against a normal small tile spacer.  Most professional who use brick slips for wall cladding on a regular basis will use Plasterboard which can be either cut or nibbled off with a pair of pliers quite easily and will give you a 10mm or 12 mm joint depending on what thickness of board you may have available. A great benefit of this method is that when you later want to remove the plasterboard spacers prior to using the jointing mortar it will not matter if it breaks off and stays in place as you can scrape it out with a small screw driver quite easily . Another method is cut your own from 10mm plyboard this is a very cheap way of creating your own Tiling spacers.

Modern Looking Fireplace that has been built using or Derwent Grey Thin  Brick slips our customer decided that they wanted to have a updated look to their old fireplace surround and thought the easiest way was to clad it over with a thin brick wall cladding, each slip comes as individual pieces and is fixed to the wall by simply mixing a cement base stone adhesive with water which we also supplied . For the external corners we have a matching brick which comes on a 90 degree angle to give the overall appearance that a full sized equivalent house brick has been used . We feel sure that you will agree with us that he has done a outstanding job and will give years of pleasure going forward .

using Stone cladding for renovating a old fireplace  is great way to give a complete room a facelift . First of all remove any loose bricks that are on the old fire surround as well as any loose plaster or flaking paint as the adhesive will not stick to these surfaces very well. If the wall is in a really bad state of repair it may well be worth giving it a scratch coat of render before apply the adhesive . You may want to cover up the surrounding area with dust blankets as this part of the build can be quite messy. 
Start from the corners with the relevant corner pieces ensuring that your bottom row is true and level  then work your way into the middle of the fireplace with the flat stones depending on what cladding system you have used  you may have to joint around each individual stone using a standard jointing mortar mix the colour of this is a personal preference  but may be with doing a few small mixes until you achieve the colour you are looking for .
