  Brick slips are suitable for outside use. As well as being thin they are also light weight which means that there is no need to worry about having extra foundation work to be carried out before attaching to existing walls  
As the picture shows this we brick matched a house that had old tired PVC cladding on it to give it a new modern upto date look. 
This not only gave the owner a brick effect on the outside it also save him on his heat loss though the walls
